I want to get really good at taking black and whites- so I did not shoot in color this time. I think Mesa is a great place to begin for newbie Street Photographers. I was out about 4pm on a Friday and there weren’t too many people. If you are like me, it can be intimidating to walk around with a camera when there are large crowds of people. Mesa Downtown has some beautiful buildings, has some great restaurants and is very clean.
I would give myself a B- for this photo shoot. My goal is to get better every time I go out. I am starting to notice light more in general along with shapes, shadows and silhouettes. None of these are award winners- but I blog so I can help other photographers who might feel their work is not good enough to post. Just the fact that you take the time to go out and shoot is reason enough! Not only that, for people who don’t live where you live, its fun to see what life is like.
This is one of the walk ways in Downtown Mesa. I liked the pattern of the poles and the shadows. Also gives you a better idea of what Mesa Downtown looks like.

For this one, I wanted to get negative space. I like how the palm trees were framing the Mesa, AZ Sign.

These are cables for the Metro. I like how the V starts at the top and then narrows down to the two signs.

Since I took the pictures in B&W, I had a lot of liberty with photoshopping. With the level tool, I made the background white. I liked how this look compared to having a sky similar to what you see in the image above. This sign is on Main Street.

An abstract of a really cool art exhibit – I should have looked to see if there was a plaque I could reference for the name. This sculpture (if that’s what you can call it) is cone shaped. I went under it and pointed my camera upwards. I photoshopped the heck out of this picture too so you can’t tell it’s the sky behind it.
